It has been a month since I integrated wordpress search result indexing to Cherez.com, one of my everything/nothing sites. The site currently has only 598 results in the google. 154 of them are from search result indexing. The site can attract more than 3000 uniques due to its highly optimized seo structure eventhough its has a low index count. So, what effect did the wordpress search result indexing have on visitor counts?

Here are the unique visitors counts according the Extreme Counter visible on every page of Cherez.com:

We can actually see a pattern of oscillations in weekly visits forming a sinusoidal shape. One of the reasons could be the fact that Googlebot is actually trying to compare the search result pages to actual content pages and drives different traffic each day. Its still to early to form a proper conclusion.

Like I said in the first of the series, I am going to wait till the index count increases to somewhere around 2000. It should not take long since people do different variety of searches everyday on Cherez.com (which could be very, very nasty)

While checking the logs, I just noticed that two of the single post pages on Cherez.com ranks as number 1 for the search term “britney spears” on google.com.tr. Its above Britney Spears’ wikipedia page and the official site. I think I should congratulate myself for achieving that.

I never thought I would reach it, but I have to say, I worked my ass off to reach it! At first, it was so hard getting the first 20 subscribers. I guess it has something to do with publishing a full feed. Although it pulls me away from my aim of earning 50$/day on this blog, i think it is worth it. However I didn’t do what all the others do!

For example, many people do not use the <- more -> tag in their posts. Eventhough it’s easier for the visitor to read your recent news, it has a few setbacks:

Duplicate content: You will be showing the same content on the post page, frontpage and the archive pages. If your not a an authority site like johnchow.com or read/write web, this might hurt your rankings alot.

Why subscribe then?: In my logic, there should be a reason for a person to signup to your rss feed: having fast access to your sites content. If you are already showing him the full content on the main page, there is no incentive to signup.

2 different feeds: As I have mentioned in my previous article “So you switched to Feedburner RSS“, some people do not change their wordpress feed urls in their header.php files. Don’t forget to change it!

I thank everyone who have signed up to my rss feed. I will be having special contents for people who are subscribed. If you don’t want to miss it, please subscribe to my rss feed.

Yesterday, I talked to Shamus from Shamuswrites.com for a redesign for his blog for about 10-15 minutes. He doesn’t want a total redesign, but a modification of his own blog’s design which is made by him. So I woke today to check my emails. There were about 30! new emails all from the contact page of Turk Hit Box. I was shocked, because since yesterday, I only received about 10. First of all, I would like to say sorry for not replying to some of the emails since there are a high number of request. I will write back to everyone once I get things in order.

So I checked my logs only to see that my design give-away has been published in weblog tools collection and the author is Shamus himself. I didn’t know he was an author in weblog tools collection at the first place, so it was a bit of shock for me. This shows importance of keeping in touch with other bloggers. On the other hand, he just turned me into a dead person for the next couple of months. I will probably dehydrate and die in front of the computer screen while designing a theme

Don’t worry about it though! I will do my best each and every time. It doesn’t mean I won’t make a design for you if I didn’t send you an email. It just means that its not your turn yet, so please be patient. I would love it if you guys could mention this in your own blogs which will increase the chances of getting a design before others

In October, I have written about a wordpress hack to make your wordpress insite searches indexable using Search Meter Wordpress Plugin. Now its time to put it in test. Cherez.com, one of my everything/nothing entertaining sites in Turkish had the hack for a while, but it was restricted with robots.txt and some wordpress conditional tags. I have now decided to un-restrict it and set it free. Let’s see how much of a traffic boost it will give over time.

Site traffic is monitored using Extreme Tracking, which is a very reliable service. Here are the unique visitor counts for last 20 days of Cherez.com. Also, when you are there, take a look around, because cherez.com is one of “THE most modified wordpress website ever“.

As you can see unique visitors are about 4000/day and currently, cherez.com has only 504 pages indexed in Google. That’s what I call Search Engine Optimization.

It might take a little time for google to index some of the searches, but I will try my best to decrease the time. I am hoping to double the traffic as the indexed pages in Google increases to somewhere around 2000.

You have probably seen a lot of websites going upstream suddenly when they got dugg or stumbleuponed to the frontpage. Well, there is one site that can do the same thing, but only available to Turkish people: Bildirgec.org. My latest theme got posted on the frontpage and I received my highest daily unique visitors to date.

Bildirgec.org is Turkey’s 71th most visited website according to Alexa. I have reviewed their website back in May and they were listed as 91st back then. Eventough the traffic effect is not as big as sites likes Digg.com, its enough for me to reach my goal for now. I got about 1200 uniques more than what I get usually. Here is how my stats plugin looks like in Wordpress dashboard:

Turkhitbox.com Alexa ranking also got a boost and placed me around 18,000 levels for now. This should mean higher text link ads income.

I know I don’t have Feedburner widget, but it’s because I was scared to place my widget with a low count especially every blogger easily has more than 150 subscribers nowadays. Thanks to some of the Bildirgec visitors, my feedburner counter increased to 76 from somewhere around 50. I shall place the counter with my new design.

On this post, I am going to show you an unique way of searching high-traffic keywords. As many of you know, many sites use free traffic counter service provided by ExtremeTracking.com. Most of the statistical data of these sites are public and for you analyze.

So, go to google.com and make a search for “site:extremetracking.com/open ref2″ followed by a main keyword. I searched for adsense using “site:extremetracking.com/open ref2 adsense”. You need to have a space between the search phrase and the keyword at the end. I wanted to keep the results relevant to “adsense”.

But google does not list them by traffic or importance. I used the PageRank Search tool that I have used in my Using Post Text Link Ads Effictively post. Remember to choose Pagerank for the Sort By option and 100 for the number of results option. And when the results page come up, change the number value at the end of the url to something like 10000 and press enter.

Now look at the top 10 pages and go the part that says “All Keywords” and try to form long tail keywords from the top three keywords that generated the most traffic. Happy keyword finding and wait for more innovative and unheard SEO techniques from Turk Hit Box!
