Let’s Speed Up Photoshop CS2

When you want to make a design for a web page, photoshop is the ultimate tool. Because of its advanced image editing algorithm and functions, photoshop uses lots of system resources. It won’t matter how much RAM or what kind of processor you have, you can still make photoshop load faster and operate faster using these optimizations:

Disable Unneeded Plugins: Each time you launch Photoshop, it loads plug-ins and presets into memory. The problem is that you may or may not need many of the plug-ins during the course of a session, but they eat into the memory allocation regardless. To disable a plugin, go to the plugins folder inside your adobe photoshop installation and place a ~ (tilde) in front of the file name. Here are some that I have disabled to speed up my photoshop cs2:

DigiRead.8bf
DigiSign.8bf
Liquify.8BF
Lens Correction.8bf
VanishingPoint.8bf

Disable Unneeded File Formats: While you are in the Plugins folder, disable some of the file formats that are rarely used. I don’t think I have opened a file with these extensions for more than 2 years now.

FilmStrip
PCX
PhotoCD
Pixar
Targa

Delete the Ugly Patterns: In your Presets\Patterns folder, there are pattern files (*.pat), you can safely remove them since they all are ugly looking and you can find a pattern that will suit your needs easly on Internet. However, removing these files won’t remove the patterns on the presets. To remove a pattern from the pattern preset, you need to go to the preset manager and delete them.

Enable Pixel Doubling: When you are working on large image files, photoshop can sometimes slow down while processing the rest of the image. By enabling pixel doubling, photoshop temporarily doubles the size of the pixels and restores them after you are done with your tool. Go to Edit > Preferences > Display & Cursors

Smaller Thumbnails with Palette Options: Photoshop displays thumbnails for each channel and each layer. You can view smaller thumbnails on Layers tab and completely disable thumbnails on the channel tab. Each tab has its own options, the most important one is the history tab. In the History options, disable every option.

Nice tips, but the pixeling on the passive photos may annoy some users after some time.
