Canadian Web Hosting has been in the web hosting business since 1998 and will be here for the long term. Their mission is to keep you up to date with the ever-changing Internet and to bring you the latest in the hosting technologies.

Canadian Web Hosting strives for the low cost hosting solutions without compromising quality. In order to provide their customers with secure and reliable web hosting, Canadian Web Hosting has chosen a first class collocation facility to operate form. Canadian Web Hosting Company’s servers are located at Harbour center in the downtown Vancouver. Canadian Web Hosting is 100% Canadian Owned and Operated. All prices are in Canadian dollars and included all applicable GST/PST taxes. And all accounts comes with a 30-day money back guarantee.

Canadian Web Hosting might be an interesting hosting solution for anyone who wants to host their site in a Canadian datacenter. For small sites, running on shared hosting accounts this might be very interesting. For their dedicated servers, in the current offering I would not recommend such a service as it is very limited in the hardware choices and you should be much better with a big US datacenter that is specialized in unmanaged dedicated servers (you will have much wider range of servers to choose and normally at better prices). Hopefully they will improve this in the future…

TNX.net is a text link ads service similar to Text-Link-Ads, but works in a slightly different way, where you can buy and sell points to have your text link on another website. Since most of my readers are mostly publishers, I decided I should write a review in a publisher point of view.

First of all, eventhough bloggers are just ordinary everyday people, they still want to work with the best. Seeing the “Beta” text does not turn me on, but it shows that they are still improving their systems, design or functionality. I would like to break this review into 3 parts: Design, SEO and Link Advertising

Design

The overall design is very Web 2.0, but checking the main page with Yahoo’s Yslow, the main page has a lousy score of 59. The main reasons for the low score are the 27 Css background images, no expires headers for files and no gzipping of css and js. Using CleanCSS on HIGH setting, TNX.net stylesheet dropped from 13.095KB to 9.861KB. The css file did not pass the validation, but there were only 2 small errors, which can be corrected easily.

Eventhough they have used 27 background images, I was shocked to see that they have included some images using the old school <img href=”…” /> method. Without alt tags and using tables within a CSS layout, there is no chance that they could have passed the validation. A total of 62 errors should not be in a professional firm’s website. If I had designed the website, the website would load 3 times faster with less CPU load and less bandwith.

SEO

Going through some of the key phrases like “text link ads”, “text link advertising” or “link advertising”, I was unable to find TNX.net on the SERPs. This means they really need to do a SEO campaign. I would highly suggest an analysis of Google Analytics results.

They are also missing META tags, which is the first step of Search Engine Optimization. TNX.net should really consider adding a description and keyword metatags including the above mentioned keywords. Looking at their robots.txt, they have blocked Googlebot from listing their main page.

Link Advertising

TNX.net is based on points, which you can earn by serving more pages including the TNX code get using their very easy to use sidebar. You can post on this DigitalPoint thread with your TNX id, you can earn 5000 TNX points. One of the things I liked was how their system rewards the pages with high Google PageRank. So if you have a website with lots of high pageranks sub-pages, you can quickly increase your TNX points and sell them to other members with an average of $0.60 per 1000 TNX points. You can also select the pagerank of the pages that you want your text-links to be served on! Of course the prices increase as the Pagerank increases. Your earnings are sent to your PayPal account which is a plus. I really don’t like waiting for checks especially when you have to pay for the mailing fee.

Overall, I really like TNX’s system for buying text-links. I highly recommend it to people with lots of high pagerank pages since you can benefit more of the system.

Bildirgec.org is one of the most visited websites in Turkey and it ’s currently listed as the 91st most visited website in Turkey according to Alexa. It’s quite probable that a website with this kind of slice of Internet traffic already has seo-optimized website, but there are improvements waiting to be made.

Bildirgec.org already has a robots.txt, but it just covers the known stuff. Having nearly as 90% of its pages listed in the supplement results according to “site:bildirgec.org *** -view“, bildirgec.org can have more statements in its robots.txt file. Here are my additions for the robots.txt:

User-agent: *
Disallow: /rss/uye/
Disallow: /uye/
Disallow: /ara/
Disallow: *.xml$

User-agent: Googlebot-Image
Disallow: /uyelik/avatar/

Out of 570 images listed for bildirgec.org on Google Image Search, 245 of them are member’s avatar, which have no search value with their irrelevant alt tags and filenames.

Looking at the source code, one thing really took my attention. They have no robots meta tag. I highly suggest adding one to benefit from all search engines. Secondly, posts did not have any description or keywords meta tags, which result them to be weighted as duplicate content resulting in supplement index placement. With their already implemented tags feature, they can easily place these tags inside the keywords tag, and use the first 20 words of an entry as description.

Other than that, they have pretty much done everything; I would also suggest adding nofollow to their inpost links, but thats against their ideology as far as I know.

Jon Waraas first got my attention, when I visited John Chow. Jon Waraas has a permanent link with no nofollow on the sidebar. Thats definitely a nice accomplishment, but it looks like Jon Waraas is trying to imitate Chow’s footsteps. Following is one thing, but imitating is another. I hope he takes my advices sincerely and make his own path.

First of all, one of the reasons that Waraas is not getting the attention he wants is that his writing style is definitely not grown-up like John Chow’s. This will prevent most of the “serious” bloggers to take him seriously. I suggest a more formal type of writing for Jon. Now let’s get to the SEO part.

Use the more tag: Why would I click your post when I can read it on the main page? Having the comment box on the page the user is reading will most probably increase their chances of writing one.

No robots.txt: This is a must! See my best robots.txt for wordpress post for more details.

Post Feeds: If you look at Waraas’ supplemental pages using “site:jonwaraas.com *** -view“, you will see that he has lots of supplemental “post feeds”. You need to block them using the below code:

User-agent: Googlebot
Disallow: /*/feed/$
Disallow: /*/feed/rss/$
Disallow: /*/trackback/$

Use the Bold and Italic styles: When you look at Jon’s posts, you can see that he never uses bold or italic text. We all know that search engines give more weight to bold text. So, make your keywords in a post bold and get more attention from search engines. It will make your posts look good, too!

Lose the sidebar stuff of Pages: You really don’t need Top Commentators or your wordpress themes on your Advertise page, do you? They lessen the keyword density and make your page longer… You can read my tiny wordpress seo tips to grab the code to do this.

Jon Waraas is still young and I believe he will continue to make money at home, but he needs to change as he gets older to increase his earnings. No, I will not talk about Jon Waraas’ girl friend

John Chow describes himself as,

Google’s #1 Dot Com Mogul. Master of The TechZone and TTZ Media Network.

Well, even though its a bold statement, I believe he is going to accomplish his statement in a matter of time. BUT as far as I can see, John Chow still needs to improve his blog SEO-wise, and here is how he should do it:

Let’s make a search for site:johnchow.com on Google. Here is the resulting page:

Oh my god, what is that? Did the Google’s #1 Mogul forgot to add meta description tag? It might not be killing his Google traffic throughly, but it sure cripples it. So John Chow, take my advice and install the Head META Description plugin by Kaf Oseo. It will add the first 20 words of your posts to the meta description tag.

Looking at John Chow dot Com source, I see that he has a lot to learn about optimization. He has added robots meta tag with index, follow to all of his pages. This is a mistake and many bloggers fall for it. You need Google to ignore the duplicate content pages. Eventhough he has them blocked in the robots.txt (which is incomplete if you look at my best robots.txt for wordpress post), he needs to add noindex, follow to those pages. Here is how he can do it:

<?php if(is_home() || is_single() || is_page() || is_category()) {
echo ‘<meta name=”robots” content=”index,follow” />’;
} else {
echo ‘<meta name=”robots” content=”noindex,follow” />’;
} ?>

Coming onto his 73rd Make Money Online batch, John Chow needs to come up with a new anchor text. He is already in top 5 for “make money online“. I say its time for him to change the anchor text. Eventhough there are quite a lot of varieties for that anchor text, I would suggest online money making according to Google Suggest. So John Chow start a new linking campaing with the new anchor text, add me to both of them
